Daily Habits of PR People

Publicists are switched on to the world around them and have their finger on the pulse when it comes to what’s happening. You can too. Adopt these simple daily rituals and you’ll be walking the walk and talking the talk of a fully-fledged PR professional in no time at all.

  • Read, listen and watch absolutely everything. From newspapers to industry magazines, podcasts to TV shows and social media. Understand what people are talking about so you can find ways to be part of the conversation. Remember to make a note of people who cover stories that might be relevant to your company so you can tap them up in the future. Some of our favourite digests include:
  • Subscribe to industry newsletters – to get a regular dose of news affecting your business. Look for opportunities to talk about your brand and understand the challenges impacting your industry so you can be part of the solution.
  • Google Alerts – set-up Google Alerts so you can see what is being published online about your business and your competitors in real-time. Although it can be a little unreliable from time to time, it’s a very useful tool and best of all it’s free.
  • Network – get out there, meet people. Keep your ears to the ground for opportunities to chat to people in your industry and beyond. Collaborations with other technology partners, brands and thought leaders, will propel your business to even greater heights and provide new opportunities to talk about your company and the products/services you provide.
  • Monitor your Google analytics – understand when, why and how people are visiting your website. Set goals to see if that interview, piece of coverage or influencer mention translated to a sale.
